Kashmiri Pandit Delegation Highlights Community Concerns in Meeting with Relief Commissioner

KPs Call for Urgent Action on Ration Distribution, Voter List Updates, and Other Pressing Issues

Jammu, June 27, 2024: A Kashmiri Pandit delegation, led by senior leader M.K. Yogi and accompanied by P.L. Swadeshi, President of the All Displaced Kashmiri United Forum, met with the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner for Migrants, Jammu & Kashmir, in his office chamber. The delegation presented a memorandum outlining a charter of community-related issues that require urgent attention for the welfare of displaced Kashmiri Pandits.

In a joint press statement, M.K. Yogi and P.L. Swadeshi detailed the issues discussed during the meeting:

  • Release of Two Months’ Ration Quota: The delegation appealed for the immediate release of two months’ pending ration quota to all relief holders at every ration depot. They also requested that ration be provided on a payment basis to migrant government employees and pensioners, a practice that was discontinued without explanation.

  • Digitization of Migrant Records: The delegation emphasized the need for digitization of migrant records to improve efficiency and transparency in accessing services.

  • Speedy Resolution of Inclusion and Bifurcation Cases: The delegation urged the expedited processing of cases related to inclusion and bifurcation of migrant records, ensuring timely and accurate updates.

  • Expedited Grievance Redressal: The delegation sought the swift resolution of migrant applications submitted through the J&K Government Grievance Cell, prioritizing their prompt processing.

  • Transparent Voter List Updation: The delegation appealed for the adoption of a transparent system to update voter lists, ensuring that all eligible displaced Kashmiri Pandits are included before the upcoming Assembly Elections.

Yogi specifically requested the Relief Commissioner to address the issue of ration for March and April 2024, which many migrants have been unable to collect despite repeated visits to the concerned office.

P.L. Swadeshi suggested that the Relief Commissioner hold regular meetings with migrants in both camps and non-camp areas to facilitate easier communication and access to officers.

The Relief Commissioner listened attentively to the delegation’s concerns and assured them of his full cooperation in addressing the issues raised.

Other members of the delegation included Opinder Lidhoo, Ashok Ji Koul, A.K. Bhat, Shadi Lal Bhat, Satesh Raina, Arvind Koul, Shoki Lidhoo, Dazy Bazaz, Pankaj Sidha, Bal Krishna Bhat, and Roshan Lal Bhat.

This meeting underscores the ongoing concerns of the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community and highlights the JKAP’s commitment to advocating for their needs and seeking timely and effective solutions from the government.
