Jammu and Kashmir Police shoots down drone in Akhnoor, recovers 5 kg IED
Jammu, July 23, 2021: A drone carrying around 5 kg of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was shot down by the Kashmir Police in the Gurah Pattan area of Akhnoor near the Line of Control in the early hours of Friday.
This comes weeks after a drone dropped explosives at an air force base in Jammu.
Sources said the drone that was shot down on Friday came from the Pakistani side of the border and the IED could have been shot down in the nearby area as it was wrapped in a plastic packet. Those who assemble it only had to connect the fuse to the wires before putting it on.
The police later detonated the IED, sources said, adding that they suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists to be behind the operation.
Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh confirmed the incident.
Barely two days before President Ram Nath Kovind’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, an IED-laden drone has been shot down.
Since the attack on the Indian Air Force station in Jammu, drone sightings have become almost a routine affair in the Valley and adjoining areas. The Srinagar district administration has, as such, banned drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles, warning that the sale, possession, storage, use and transportation of drones would invite action.
