Induction Programme for New Batch of M.Ed. Students at MIER College
Jammu, January 16, 2023: MIER College of Education organized an induction and orientation programme for its new batch of M.Ed. students. Dr. Adit Gupta formally welcomed the students to the MIER family and said that it is the first college in the private sector to start different programmes like B.Ed., B.Ed. Special Education, B.A. Honours in different disciplines, M.Ed. and M.Ed. Special Education. He said the college organizes a plethora of activities and provides ample opportunities to transform students’ personalities in the right direction. He said that major focus areas of the programme are to develop research skills, communication and questioning skills among students. He also encouraged students to work hard and use the college’s resources to become effective teacher educators, such as the ICT, library, online resources, and educational research facilities.
Dr. Renu Gupta, Chairperson MIER, blessed the new students of the PG department and recalled her journey as an academician, researcher, and leader. She shared the three core values of the college, ‘engage, empower, and excel’ and stressed that one must be positive, a problem solver, have an open mind, and be transparent in educational process. She advised them to put their 100% in the programme and gave valuable mantras required to build competencies to achieve their career aspirations. She stated that the new National Education Policy is designed to bring Research Skills to the students and wished them all the best in their learning endeavor.
Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Jt. Director MIER, shared with students that she is a proud alumnus of the institution and said that students would be mastering the nuances of teaching in this program, developing new teaching pedagogies, and understanding the institutional culture. She advised the students to keep an open communication with faculty, show mutual respect, and nurture positive and scientific thinking to face the vagaries of life.
A video of different centres, units and committee was also shown which was followed by a formal introduction of the faculty members. The orientation regarding course curriculum along with programme and course learning outcomes was given by the HoD and respective teachers. The deputy HoD PG Department, Dr. Nishta Rana oriented the students regarding their responsibilities, expectations, and code of conduct. A session on grievance and redressal mechanism, anti-ragging and committee against sexual harassment was conducted by Ms. Jasleen Mohial, Coordinator IQAC. Mr. Pranav Gandotra, Manager, HR trainings, and Mr. Rajan Slathia, ICT In- charge, shared the digital initiatives at MIER College which include PI360, College ERP, Google Classroom, Wi-Fi connectivity & LinkedIn. The programme ended with a guided tour of the college for the newly admitted students.
