Health Department Kargil organizes one day training programme on Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccination for Block ToTs

KARGIL JUNE 09, 2021: Health Department Kargil organized one day training programme for Block ToTs on Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccination (PCV) at the Training Hall of CMO Office Kargil here today.

Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) protects children from pneumonia and the vaccine is being administered under 1 year children at the age of 6 weeks, 14 weeks and 9 months with routine immunization.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Kargil Dr Muhammad Abass, District Immunization Officer Kargil Dr Abdul Jalil Wani, Consultant Pediatrician District Hospital Kargil Dr Anwar Hussain, Former CMO Kargil Dr Muhammad Jaffar Akhone and Community Health Officer Aga Syed Muhammad Shah were the resource persons during the training programme.

2 participants from each medical block- one MO and one Paramedic participated in the training as Block ToTs.

The resource persons on the occasion enlightened the ToTs about the common forms of pneumococcal disease, its transmission and diagnosis, need to vaccinate against pneumococcal disease, vaccination schedule for PCV, steps taken to ensure that an infant is vaccinated on time, how safe is PCV, common PCV side effects, storing, preparing and administering the vaccine, and other related aspects.

The Block ToTs will conduct training to the Frontline Health Workers including the FMPHWs, MMPHWs, ASHAS and AWWs of their respective blocks soon.

Pertinently, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI has introduced the PCV in the Universal Immunization Program (UIP) to protect children against the Pneumococcal disease.
