GMDC Zanskar organizes day long webinar on role of Urdu language and literature in Indian freedom struggle
KARGIL JUNE 16, 2021: As a part of the 75 Years of India’s Independence- Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, Government Model Degree College (GMDC) Zanskar today organized a day long webinar on the topic Tehreek e Azadi Mei Urdu Adab Wa Shairi Ka Kirdar (Role of Urdu Language and Literature in Freedom Struggle).
The webinar was attended by a large number of students and faculty members of different constituent colleges of the University of Ladakh.
Assistant Professor PCMR College Jammu and President Tehreek e Baqa e Urdu Irfan Arif was the chief guest and keynote speaker on the occasion.
Renowned Urdu orators Ashok Kumar Paras and Ghulam Nabi also spoke on the topic.
Students from different colleges including Government Model Degree College Zanskar, Government Degree College Kargil, Government Degree College Drass and Government Degree College Nubra presented their couplets, poems and papers on the topic which were highly applauded by the participants and guests.
The keynote speaker Irfan Arif spoke in length about the contribution of different Urdu poets and literary personalities in Indian freedom struggle. He stated that the poems, contents and literature created in Urdu language have made a profound impact on the masses as in the pre independence period Urdu language was widely read and written by the masses.
He quoted many personalities who wrote and spoke using Urdu language to enthuse masses in participating in the freedom struggle of the country, adding he said that it is the Urdu language and its scholars who actively participated in the freedom struggle and produced literature in the form of poems, editorials and books.
Earlier, Principal Government Model Degree College Zanskar Nasir Shabani welcomed the guests and participants and stated that the webinar is a part of the series of activities organized by the college in connection with Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav and similar other activities will be organized in future as well.
The program was conducted by Lecturer Urdu Dr Ajaz Ahmad and convened by Murtaza Librarian of the college.
Muhammad Jawad Jalib, Assistant Professor Urdu Government Degree College Kargil also participated among the jury members.
Among the participants, Syed Mehmood Rizvi and Shakeela Banoo of Government Degree College Drass got the 1st and 2nd position respectively while the 3rd position was shared by Zainab Khatoon and Murtaza Ali of Government Degree College Nubra.
