EC Tashi takes stock of snow clearance works at Shinkula Pass

Inspects ongoing developmental works in Lungnak Block, interacts with locals to know of their issues, grievances, developmental needs

KARGIL, JUNE 11, 2021: Executive Councillor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs Er Punchok Tashi took stock of snow clearance works at Shinkula Pass here today.

Area Development Officer/SDM Zanskar Sonam Dorjay, Officer Commanding (OC) 126 RCC GREF Major Rana, BMO Zanskar Dr Stanzin Namgyal, and Executive Engineer PWD Muhammad Abass BDO Lungnak Tsewang Rigzin besides other concerned officers accompanied the Executive Councillor during the tour.

The OC 126 RCC GREF Zanskar briefed the EC about the delay of snow clearance due to unfair weather and heavy snow fall on the pass during 4th and 5th June, 2021, adding he said that the shortage of machinery and technical problems also caused delay in the snow clearance from the road.

OC and his team however assured EC Tashi that if the weather remains favorable the snow clearance from the road will be completed by 14th June, and traffic movement shall be allowed from 15th June, 2021.

EC Tashi directed the OC to deploy more machines on work, so that the snow clearance work could be completed at the earliest possible, as local people coming from Himachal Pradesh by trekking on this pass are presently facing a lot of problem.

The EC Zanskar Affairs also inspected the ongoing developmental works in Lungnak Block including the construction of cafeteria and guest house by the Zanskar Development Authority (ZDA) at a cost of Rs 80 lakhs and Rs 40 lakhs respectively.

He also inspected the ongoing construction works of motorable bridge at cost of Rs 1.5 crores at Hing, rest house at Cha at a cost of Rs 1 crore, Medical Aid Centre at a cost of Rs 72 lakhs and helipad at Kargyak at a cost of Rs 15 lakhs being executed by PWD Zanskar.

EC Punchok Tashi also interacted with public delegations at village Kargyak, Thablay, Cha, Dorzang who projected various issues and demands including telecommunication facilities for online classes for students, drinking water and healthcare facilities, issues related to road and electricity and other basic facilities.

The EC gave a patient hearing to all issues raised by the people of these far flung villages and assured them that all requisite measures will be taken to address the issues in a phased manner.

EC Tashi along with the officers also inspected the screening point/ police check post established at Kargyak.

The personnel deployed on duty at the screening point urged the EC for scheduling of a traffic plan for the incoming and outgoing passengers, so that the rapid testing can be conducted in a smooth manner. They also projected demand for providing of lighting facilities at the screening point.

The EC Zanskar Affairs assured the personnel of police and health department to provide solar lighting system so that the rapid test of all passengers could be conducted smoothly during the evening time as well.
