EC Phunsok Tashi reviews status of ongoing works in Tourism Sector

Directs to raise tourism related structures on pattern of traditional architecture

KARGIL, JUNE  22, 2021: Executive Councilor for Tourism Er Phunsok Tashi took stock of the status of ongoing works in Tourism Sector under the District Capex Budget, State Sector and SDP during a meeting with the concerned officers at Council Secretariat Kurbathang here today.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kargil Development Authority (KDA) Abdul Gaffar Zargar, Assistant Director Tourism Aga Syed Toha, Executive Engineer KDA Sajjad Hussain Wazir, Executive Engineer Rural Engineering Wing (REW) Kargil Gulzar Hussain Munshi, engineers of KDA besides other concerned officers were present during the meeting.

Thorough deliberations and discussions were done on various works underway in different blocks of the district under Tourism Sector.

The EC Tourism was informed that for KDA, under UT Capex development works, Rs 473.41 lacs have been approved while Rs 461 lacs have also been approved for different tourism related work under the District Capex Budget.

EC Phunsok Tashi while highlighting the importance of conservation of heritage sites said that these projects must be taken on priority. He directed the concerned officers to frame DPRs of the conservation projects of Karchay Khar, Chiktan Khar, Passar Khar and Hunderman Heritage village.

As regards to the ongoing and new works, EC Phunsok Tashi instructed the concerned officers that Ladakhi architectural design must be incorporated in the structural designs of the tourism related structures especially focusing on passive solar technology.

Highlighting the importance of Yarkashing Twin Springs as an emerging tourist attraction, EC Tashi directed the concerned engineers to complete the tendering process for development of this tourist spot, adding he also stressed for accelerating the pace of work on the development of the Maitreya Buddha Statue at Karchay Khar.

The EC Tourism also directed the officers concerned to identify suitable locations for putting up signages and stressed that creative designs must be used for new signages at different sites in the district for which content shall be provided by the Tourism Department.

EC Phunsok Tashi also directed the concerned to identify land for construction of snow lift at Linkipal and said that this site can be used as a summer view point of Kargil town as well.

The EC Tourism maintained that DPRs should be prepared only after proper deliberation and consultation with experts.

Regarding the establishment of eco-park at Chiktan, the EC Tourism said that shagaran near CHC Chiktan is the feasible site for it.

EC Tashi while expressing satisfaction over the pace of works underway under the Tourism Department and Kargil Development Authority directed the concerned officers to ensure their completion well before the end of the working season.
