EC Mohsin reviews functioning of Wildlife Department Kargil
KARGIL, JUNE 07, 2021: Executive Councilor for Forest and Wildlife Mohsin Ali reviewed the functioning of the Wildlife Department Kargil here today.
Wildlife Warden Kargil, Raza Ali Abidi besides other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
During the course of the meeting, EC Mohsin Ali took stock of the developmental activities undertaken by the Wildlife Department under different schemes/components during the year 2021-2022, adding he was also was also informed about the works completed in the year 2020-2021.
EC Mohsin Ali was informed during the meeting that while several proposals and works have been approved, few proposals are in the active consideration of the UT Administration Ladakh including the proposal for establishment of 2 new protected areas- Suru Valley Wildlife Sanctuary and Zanskar High Altitude Wildlife Sanctuary which have been submitted to Government of India, new advanced research works like occupancy survey, camera trap survey taken up in different areas of Kargil, the outcome of which has resulted in the recording of two new species from Kargil district.
Regarding other projects, the EC Wildlife was informed that allotment under new CSS scheme like Snow Leopard and Management outside protected areas has been approved while the introduction of new schemes like provision of solar street lights, waste management, and home stays and eco camps have also started.
Other proposals/works about which the Wildlife Warden Kargil informed the Executive Councillor included the development of eco-tourism based infrastructure in different areas under SDP and works undertaken including the inspection hut at Bodh Kharboo and the check posts at Drass and Rangdum, development of eco-tourism based infrastructure taken in Drass and Pashkum areas besides the purchase of latest advanced equipments and field tools for effective management.
The EC Wildlife appreciated the efforts of the Wildlife Warden and his team for the upliftment and preservation of wildlife in the district and assured of all out necessary support whenever required from the LAHDC Kargil in this regard.
