MLA Arvind Gupta Tours Flood-Hit Jawahar Nagar, Assures Priority Repair of Damaged Bund
Inspection at Senior Journalist King C. Bharati’s Residence Highlights Urgent Need for Action as MLA Vows to End Two Decades of Neglect
Jammu, August 29, 2025: Responding to the severe impact of recent flash floods, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Jammu West, Shri Arvind Gupta, today conducted an extensive tour of the affected areas in Talab Tillo, with a particular focus on Jawahar Nagar. The visit was aimed at making a first-hand assessment of the damages following the torrential rains that have lashed the region since August 24.
During his on-ground assessment, the MLA paid special attention to the critically damaged protection bund adjacent to H. No. 1004 – Gypsy House, Jawahar Nagar, Talab Tillo, Jammu – 180002 the residence of senior journalist and social activist King C. Bharati also known as King Chiranjivi Pandit. This vital embankment, which safeguards the locality from the turbulent waters of the adjoining nallah, has suffered extensive structural damage. Residents fear that it is now at high risk of a complete collapse in the event of another flash flood, a situation that would endanger the entire mohalla. For Video Click Here >>
The recent deluge, which began on August 24, saw the Jawahar Nagar nallah swell to unprecedented levels, with floodwaters surging nearly three feet above the bund and inundating the homes of local residents. King C. Bharati’s residence was one of the first and most severely affected. The family suffered losses estimated at over ₹60,000, destroying household items including two motor pumps, a washing machine, and carpets. The flood’s force also caused significant structural damage, leading to the floor of one room caving in.
Expressing serious concern over the precarious state of the bund, Shri Gupta gave a firm assurance to Mr. Bharati and other residents that its repair and strengthening would be undertaken on an immediate and priority basis. He acknowledged that Jawahar Nagar has faced neglect for the past two decades and pledged that a comprehensive plan for the area’s revival and refurbishment would now be pursued to ensure the long-term safety of its residents.
“The safety of the people is my utmost priority,” Shri Gupta stated while interacting with the residents. “The damage to this protection bund is a serious matter, and we will not wait for another disaster. I have directed the concerned departments to prepare an estimate and begin work immediately.”
The MLA’s visit was not confined to a single location. He spent considerable time interacting with other residents of the mohalla, visiting several flood-affected homes to personally witness the extent of the damage and listen to their grievances. He assured them of all possible support from both the party and the administration in mitigating their losses and restoring a sense of normalcy.
His assurances have brought a sense of relief to the anxious residents, who are now hopeful for swift administrative action to prevent a future catastrophe.
