A Proud Moment for J&K: Sarwanand Koul Premi's Legacy Immortalized on Kanyakumari's Shaheed Smriti Wall
Jammu, December 08, 2024: The name of renowned Kashmiri Pandit freedom fighter, poet, and scholar Sarwanand Koul Premi has been inscribed on a newly unveiled Tribute wall dedicated to India’s freedom fighters. Located at the Vivekananda Kendra in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, the “Shaheed Smriti” wall features the names of over 1,040 freedom fighters from across India. The unveiling ceremony, held on July 23, 2024, was presided over by RSS Sarsanghachalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat.
The Tribute Wall, constructed by the Chakra Vision India Foundation Trust, is part of a larger initiative to commemorate the sacrifices of freedom fighters across the nation.
Dr. Bhagwat, during his address, emphasized the widespread nature of India’s freedom struggle, stating that within a 10 km radius of almost any location in India, one will find a freedom fighter was born. He expressed hope that similar tribute walls would be erected throughout the country.
The inclusion of Sarwanand Koul Premi’s name on the Memorial/Tribute wall is a significant recognition of his contributions to India’s independence movement and is a source of immense pride for the Jammu Kashmir State particularly Kashmiri Pandit community.
“It is with great humility that I, on behalf of my entire Premi family and the community at large, inform everyone about the great honour bestowed on my revered father,” said Rajinder Premi, Sarwanand Koul Premi’s son and a renowned social activist, in a statement released earlier. “We are deeply indebted to Vivekananda Kendra for immortalizing the sacrifice and contribution of my father.” His inclusion is a testament to the widespread nature of the struggle and to the diverse voices who contributed to India’s freedom.
The impressive memorial, featuring a Bharat Mata statue and a 100-foot national flag, is a fitting tribute to these unsung heroes.
